Green Frog Connect Limited were proud to be awarded the contract to deliver the 33kv ICP grid connection for SWGT, their first UK BESS site in the UK. The POC connection to SSEN Mannington substation connects to a 30mw (2-hour duration) Battery Energy Storage site. The connection was adopted by an IDNO.

How did Green Frog Connect help?
DNO design submission for the 33kv contestable design works. (IDNO adopted)
33kv construction of 400m grid cable route, from SSEN substation to customers point of supply substation.
Construction of SSEN and customers substation compounds.
DNO protection and control panels and battery charger systems.
Earthing soil resistivity, design, and earthing installation.
Customers 33kv 6 panel switchboard, protection panels, site earthing.
Installation of over 50 BESS containers.
Design, civil construction, BESS installation, electrical integration and all BOP for the EPC works on site.
On-going 24/7 O&M services for the Mannington site. Including SAP coverage.
Major Design Considerations of the Scheme
The overall scheme was purchased from Swindon Borough Council and the project developed by Public Power Solutions and SWGT.
Technically challenging on site due to the close proximity of 132kv SSEN overhead lines, this was overcome by our on site team in conjunction with advice from Green Frog SHEQ team.
Extremely narrow access to the development site. Green Frog Connect was appointed as ICP/EPC for all works on site.

Green Frog Connect are currently involved in large a number of BESS projects, with a total capacity in excess of 1GW across the UK. Of these projects over 400mw are now connected to the grid and operational.
Green Frog Connect are a Lloyds Accredited ICP with capabilities to design, and construct grid connections up to 132kv across all DNO areas in the UK.
We have in-house expertise in the design of BESS projects including electrical integration and civil works full design.
Our construction teams have now experience with the installation of most BESS systems, including, but not limited to Tesla, BYD, GE, ABB, Sungrow, Envision, Canadian Solar to name a few. Our involvement in this market reinforces our commitment to the Low Carbon future of the UK energy infrastructure.
